KÖMMERLING has access to a wide range of technologies in the field of functional organic materials for bonding, sealing and insulation. These technologies are key to the successful design, production and marketing of solar panels. The different systems are fully compatible with one another with regard to processing and product design.


In the area of panel sealing, the focus is on the protection of components against ageing and functional losses due to environmental factors. Sealing technology specially designed for solar panels will largely prevent the ingress of liquids and suspended particles and will also reduce the diffusion of gaseous elements of the air like water vapour, oxygen, nitrogen and sulphur oxides.

To achieve this, the permeability of the materials has to as low as possible but also wetting of the surfaces of the contact materials has to be efficient, in order to prevent diffusion along the interfaces.


Liquid application of the systems allows perfect degrees of freedom in design.


With regard to any temperature stresses that may occur, the technologies allow to compensate the different thermal extension of the materials avoiding tension peaks.


Sealants must function over very long periods of time under the influence of heat, UV, humidity, and aggressive gases in the air and in contact with other materials. To ensure their long service, accurate analysis, intensive systematic investigation and years of experience is required.


The adhesive bonding technology allows the bonding of very different materials without compromising their inherent cohesiveness and also offers the possibility to reduce tension without influencing the surfaces of the substrates. Additional advantages are the freedom in design and optimized utilization of material up to a complete elimination of construction elements.


In the field of solar panels, the emphasis is on superior ageing resistance combined with tension reduction within the substrates and material properties as constant as possible over a very wide temperature range.

Especially elastic adhesives fulfil these requirements.
Elastic joints provide excellent ability to absorb movement. Due to the elastic behaviour occurring tensions are distributed to wide areas and overstraining of all materials involved is avoided. To achieve the required movement absorption a minimum thickness of the adhesive layer is required.
